  It is not only jazz fans who will immediately associate well-known Melodies with the name Glenn Miller.Several generations have danced to titles such as "In The Mood" "Moonlight Serenade" and "Chattanooga Choo Choo". This big-band music is timeless and our box of 10 CDs is a real treasure chest for swing fans not only for the 13 original albums it contains but also many bonus songs starting with the year 1939. The historical recordings are not up to the sound quality of the digital age but that does not spoil the listening pleasure. The typical Glenn Miller sound comes from a clarinet in the foreground; tenor or alto saxophones play the same melody an octave lower. In this way the orchestra earned an unbelievable 10000 dollar a week in 1940 and for "Chattanooga" it was awarded the first ever golden disc in 1942. Hollywood also became interested and Miller and his band played the lead role in the film "Sun Valley Serenade" while in 1953 his life story was filmed with James Stewart in the title role. Even his death would make film material and remains a mystery. After appearances in Scotland France and England in 1944 Miller boarded a 'plane from London to Paris where however the aircraft never landed. Whether it was accidentally shot down or this was a cover-up for his alleged death in a brothel is even today not clear.
