  ▼南レヴァント地方（現代のイスラエル、レバノン、ヨルダン）から出土した「円盤を持つ女性型土偶」を中心に、様々なタイプの女性型土偶のデータを収集し、その集成を分析することによって「円盤を持つ女性型土偶」の性格を明らかにする。また、これらの土偶の時代による分布域の変化から、紀元前10-9世紀における古代イスラエルの宗教観の変化（つまりは一神教への変化）を考察する聖書考古学の研究書。
