  本書は、現代日本語語彙の「カタカナ語化」の様相を変異研究の視点から解明する社会言語学の研究書である。英語を主とする西欧諸語との言語接触の結果、日本語には和語や漢語と同じ意味を持つカタカナ語（「ケース」・「サポート」など）が多数存在する。意識調査とコーパス調査を通じて、カタカナ語が選択される言語的要因、使用者の社会的属性との相関、場面による既存語との使い分け、見かけ時間と実時間を利用した変化予測モデルなどについて論じる。

  九州大学文学部（社会学専攻）在学中に韓国ソウル大学へ交換留学したことを機に、ことばと社会との関係性に興味を持つ。卒業後は言語学を学ぶために英国オックスフォード大学大学院へ進学し、社会言語学の道へ。2011年修士号、2017年博士号取得。主な研究テーマは言語変異・言語変化。
