  本書では、日英対照の視点から、節連言構造の解釈メカニズムの解明とそのモデル化により、当該現象の全体像における核心部を明らかにする。節レベルの要素を等位的な接続表現でつなぐ節連言構造として、英語のand連言文とそれに対応する日本語の複数の構造を認知語用論の枠組みに基づいて分析する。そのうえで、節連言構造の解釈に貢献する根本的な特性を抽出し、当該現象を統一的かつ包括的に説明できる新たなアプローチを示す。
