  2011年3月に発生した福島第一原発事故では、事故由来の様々な放射性核種が環境中に放出された。本書では、海洋を主な研究フィールドとして活躍する7名の著者が、事故以降の300編を超える論文で公表された知見に、新たな解析結果を追加して議論を重ね、海洋における事故由来の放射性核種の動態について、海水、堆積物、生物、モデルなどの分野に分けて科学的に総括する。
